In Episode Eight of the Running Tales podcast, in collaboration with Run Tri Bike, Craig Lewis speaks to Tim Stent, aka the Middle Aged Running Man (MARM).
If the bio on Tim's YouTube page is to believed his channel is, ‘a running channel with a middle-aged man in it. Running’.
The brevity of that description hasn’t stopped almost three-and-a-half thousand subscribers rush to enjoy the race day vlogs and reviews the channel provides.
The man behind it is Tim Stent, and his fans - aka The MARMY Army - are treated to sometimes serious, often sarcastic and always hilarious videos from a host of races across the UK.
Tim only started running in 2014, according to his very first video as “we had just had twin girls” and he wanted to “fight off death”. He quickly became obsessed and by 2018 was taking on three half-marathons in as many weekends, an experience which he says did nearly kill him.
Three years later, he ran a half-marathon in every weekend of 2021. The YouTube channel was launched a year later as he attempted to do the same challenge again and has since chronicled a wide-range of activities and adventures.

‘I don’t stretch. I don’t eat healthily. I’m nearly 46 and I’m knackered.’
Tim Stent’s welcome message on his first Middle Aged Running Man (MARM) YouTube video has more than a hint of unorthodoxy about it.
But Tim isn’t your usual running influencer. As his YouTube biography says, ‘Middle Aged Running Man is a running channel with a middle aged man in it. Running.’
